The Vice-Chancellor’s Message

Prof. Lazarus Hangula
The University of Namibia’s education and training as well as research and development programmes have been designed to meet national and international, human resource requirements. This is done through quality teaching, research, consultancy and community service. Located in the heart of the Namibian capital Windhoek, the University of Namibia is the largest tertiary institution in Namibia. It houses 8 faculties namely: Health Sciences (consisting of the School of Medicine and the School of Nursing and Public Health), Law, Humanities & Social Sciences, Economics & Management Science, Agriculture & Natural Resources, Science, Engineering and Information Technology and Education. The faculties offer a wide range of diploma, degree and postgraduate courses.
Through competent and dedicated staff and quality infrastructure, the University has continued to contribute significantly to national and international knowledge.
The University continues to concentrate on key objectives of enabling students to reach their optimum levels of academic performance and improvement with respect to independent thinking and practical learning, communications skills, knowledge, networking for problem solving and trans-disciplinary approaches, research capabilities, publications and writing skills. The University’s graduate employment record continues to be encouraging. The University of Namibia cherishes diversity and encourages multiculturalism. Against this background, we welcome international students from all over the world. They not only add value to our rich diversity, but also enable us as staff and students to learn about other countries and cultures, without physically going there. With many of us coming from a diverse range of backgrounds and experiences, I believe we all have something to learn from one another. Join us for the UNAM experience.
