The Campus achieves its goals by focusing on three main activities:
- Expanding and enriching the provision of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes
- Developing and implementing programmes aimed at educating and developing community members
- Undertaking research that enhances our understanding of key socio- economic issues in the region
The Campus' vision and mission advocates for inclusive education, lifelong learning and quality service delivery. The campus has also developed operating principles, approaches and values that guide the provision of teaching, learning and research. Our educational programmes reflect clear responses to local and national needs and trends in the environment in terms of programme content, learning methods, flexibility and new programme development. Most programmes are developed to facilitate maximum learning and self-development by the student. In developing programmes, Oshakati Campus strives to honour and build upon the indigenous wisdom and knowledge that is endowed in the communities it serves while maintaining its commitment to create and diffuse new knowledge.
The north central region has been deprived of educational opportunities. We also recognize that nobody in the employment today whether in the public or private sector, can be unaware of change. Lifelong learning, for new and enhanced skills is therefore a pre-condition for any university dispiring for academic excellence. The world of today characterised by the need for life long learning, self-development, and the need among its inhabitants to be employed and stay employable. In this case university education must move from a model of teaching knowledge to one of facilitating learning. Continuous training and development for sustainable employment and development should be fostered. Oshakati Campus therefore provides opportunities for life long learning.
Teaching, learning and research at Oshakati Campus is provided through its 6 constituent units: CES, Nursing & Public Health, Language Centre, Foundation Programme, Open Learning, and Research Unit. In addition, there are four units that provide support services and ensure that teaching and learning of the highest standard is provided. These are the Library and Information Resources Centre, Communications and Marketing, Campus Administration and Campus Infrastructure Unit.
Our mission unifies our work and encourages us to work hard, as a team and in partnership with our students, clients and communities. There are many committes to guide and direct the work of individual programmes and projects. The UNAM Oshakati Campus Advisory Council (UNCAC) , is responsible for guiding the development of the whole campus. The Advisory Council reports to the University Council, which is the highest governing body of the University of Namibia, and the Senate. The day-to-day campus activities are managed by the Director, who receives regular advice from the Management Committee.
