UNAM sends law students to compete in two moot courts each year: The African Human Rights Moot Court Competition and the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition.

African Human Rights Moot Court Competition
The Centre for Human Rights at the University of Pretoria initiated this competition in 1992 and it has since become one of the premier human rights events on the continent. Approximately 70 law faculties from across Africa send a team of two students and a human rights law lecturer to this competition every year. The students argue a hypothetical human rights case under the African Charter on Human and Peoples' Rights before benches of law lecturers and human rights experts.
UNAM has sent teams to this moot court competition since 1995, with its best showing coming in 2003 when the team of Ms. Geraldine Geraldo and Mr. Dunia Prince Zongwe placed 10 th overall, with Geraldine chosen as best oralist
Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition
Originally named the "International Law Moot," the Jessup Competition held its first round at Harvard University on May 3, 1960. In 1961, the first interschool competition was held at Colombia Law School, with teams competing from Yale, Harvard and Colombia University. Later re-named in honour of H.E. Philip C. Jessup, justice of the International Court of Justice, this competition expanded over the next three years to include students from nearly a dozen U.S. law schools. Now in its 45 th year the Jessup Competition today involves law students from over 550 law schools in over 90 countries, making it the largest moot court competition in the world.
