OSHAKATI LANGUAGE CENTRE
The University of Namibia Campus at Oshakati is next to the Independence Stadium in Oshakati West, not far from the Main Road and close to Iipumbu Secondary School. The campus houses the Centre for External Studies, the Medical and Health Science Faculty, the Language Centre and a large hall. The University Community Hall can accommodate more than 400 people and is multi‑functional. This Hall is in partnership with the Town Council. The uses of this Hall include plenary lectures, workshops, meetings, public addresses, examinations, and on weekends, a variety of community‑based social activities such as films and celebratory gatherings. Facilities in this expanding campus will include staff offices, seminar rooms, a growing library, audio‑visual resources as well as a hands‑on computer room. All units, including the Language Centre, will have access to these facilities.

All courses are offered at four levels with the exception of Sign Language, which is offered at 2 levels only.
Target Group:
Private individuals, students, the Business community and everyone who wishes to learn a language or to improve his/her language skills.
Content:
The courses aim above all at developing knowledge of the spoken language, using the Communicative approach and the practice of interactive language skills. Thus the courses cover the four skills: reading, listening, writing, and speaking as well as grammar and vocabulary. Duration: 4 hours per week -approximately 3 months, (offered every trimester).

Assessment:
Attendance (85 %), tests and examination (50% pass).
Please take note: All courses will pay special attention to areas of grammatical and lexical upgrading, viz: word order: pronunciation and spelling, verb tense usage, questions and question tags, passive and active voice, sentence construction, nouns and articles. Verb noun agreement. nouns, pronouns and quantifies, adverbs, prepositions and linking devices, money, numbers and word formation.
Methodology: Group, pair and individual activities, lecturing, facilitation and observation, collecting information reporting and writing summaries.
Out of class activities will consist of role-play and simulations e.g. meetings: project planning and development. All language skills will be integrated but with the focus on hands on activities and on- site observation where possible.
Certification
A candidate is given a certificate on request: for instance if candidate attends only one course he/she would receive a certificate for that course only. Otherwise a candidate is awarded a certificate after completing all courses offered by the Language Centre. The certificate will cover all levels and duration of the courses passed.
Course Fees
The course fee for all of the above is N$ 400,00 per course payable upon registration. This includes a non-refundable of amount N$ 150,00 to cover administrative costs. Students who drop out after the first two weeks of the course will be liable for the full course fee.
NB. Foreign students should have a study permit / visa to enroll, and are advised to apply for their study permit / visa before they leave their country of origin.
