Biography in brief

Martin Shapi’s Alma matter is the Agricultural University of Norway (currently known as University of Life Sciences), where he obtained his MSc. in Management of Natural Resources and Sustainable Agriculture. Shapi matriculated (completed grade 12 by then) at ELCIN Nkurenkuru High School before studying for a Bachelor of Arts at and the only national university in the country, the University of Namibia (UNAM) majoring in Geography and Economics.Shapi was recruited (1997) as student intern at UNAM’s Multi-disciplinary Research Centre (MRC) prior to the accomplishment of his undergraduate degree and immediately hired (1998) as junior researcher after obtaining the degree. 

Shapi worked for more than half a year as understudy school principal at his Alma matter ELCIN Nkurenkuru High School where he happened to be awarded a NORAD scholarship to go pursue his MSc. studies.After his MSc studies he rejoined UNAM in 2002 to-date as research fellow. Shapi has extensive research experiences in Natural Resources Management which includes CBNRM (ecotourism, wild life management, Forestry management and Inland Fisheries and smallholders farm management. Due to vast research experience,Shapi currently leads the Land Programme in Social Sciences Division.

  • As from June 2007 to March 2008 managed Ministry of Information and Communication Technologies Service Delivery Project worth N$ 1,064,000.00.
  • In 2006 was part of the Team which implemented National Planning Commission’s Participatory Poverty Assessment project assigned to Khomas and Oshana Regions

  • As from May 2005 to date I am serving as a member of Curriculum Advisory Committee for the Land Programme at the Polytechnic of Namibia.
  • Since November 2005 to date I am serving as board member of the Women’s Land and Water Rights in Southern Africa based in Harare, Zimbabwe.
