Delegates from Vital Solutions (http://www.vitalsolutions.net/) Managing Director Mr. Norbert Weitkemper and PhytoTrade Africa (http://www.phytotradeafrica.com/index.html ) R&D expert, Mr. Cyril Lombard visited UNAM-MRC on Friday, 12th November 2010 to discuss possible collaboration on the development of indigenous natural products. The MRC Director, Dr. Hina Mu Ashekele lead a tour to the MRC collaborative laboratories at the Faculty of Sciences, such as the Malaria Research Laboratory in the Department of Biology and the IKST Food Lab in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry. PhytoTrade Africa urges on establishing collaboration in research work on Marula and Ximenia product development. Such collaboration will increase the Research and Development activities undertaken at UNAM-MRC in the field of Indigenous Natural products. PhytoTrade Africa and Vital Solutions presented a proposal on the establishment of Indigenous Natural Products Innovation Platform to the National Planning Commission on 11th November 2010. This Platform will be named “Phyto-Tech”, which is aiming mainly to add value(s) and develop indigenous natural products in Namibia.
