After graduation with my BVM, I worked for Tanzania Government as Regional Veterinary Officer for Tanga Region for about 2 years before proceeding for MSc and later PhD. After my Phd, I worked for the International Centre for Insect Physiology & Ecology ( ICIPE), in Nairobi, Kenya from 1978 starting from the rank of Postdoctoral research Fellow and climbing to Principal Research Scientist in 1990. I also held Senior Administrative Positions e.g. Research Leader for Biological Control Programme and Programme Leader for Livestock Ticks Research Programme.
In 1991 while working at ICIPE, I was awarded the prestigious medal for Innovative Research based on my outstanding work on Tsetse flies. In 2004, I was awarded a medal in Cairo, Egypt, for my outstanding contribution in tick science on the African continent.
From ICIPE, I joined the University of Namibia in 1999 as a full Professor in the Department of Biological Sciences. I was appointed the Head of this Department in 2001, a position I held till 2007. In year 2008 I was appointed Executive Dean for the Faculty of Agriculture & Natural Resources. I have supervised over 10 PhD and 4 MSc students and published over 70 refereed articles in journals and books. |
