Prof. Mpofu heads the Department of Animal Science in the Faculty of Agriculture and Natural Resources. He is a Zimbabwean who has 16 years of lecturing, research and outreach experience at University level. Prior to joining the University of Namibia in April, 2009, Prof Mpofu served as the inaugural Dean of Veterinary Medicine at Umutara Polytechnic University in Rwanda (from October 2006 to March, 2009). Before that, He had worked for 13 years at the University of Zimbabwe where he rose from Lecturer grade to Senior lecturer and Chairman (Head of Department) of Animal Science. He has authored 3 books (2 of them published by Upfront Publishing in the United Kingdom. [Surf: www.upfrontpublishing.com, or www.amazon.com]. He has also developed two software (1) a Dairy Farm Management Software and (2) a Feed Formulation Software. He has over 23 publications, has supervised many PhD, MSc and BSc Students and has served as external examiner for Pretoria University, Africa University and University of Malawi. He has also done consultancy work in feed formulation, feed manufacturing and livestock development.

- (In 2009), Training (and following up on post training technology adoptation) of Dairy cooperatives in Rwanda’s Kayonza, Gatsibo and Nyagatare Districts in Fodder conservation, Ammoniation of straws, Legume production and Feed formulation.
- (In 2008), Training (and following up on post training technology adoptation)of farmers in Animal Production and Health, Animal Feed making sponsored by UNDP (United Nations Development Program). 48 farmers were trained in disease surveillance, treatment, prevention, producing on-farm concentrates to improve milk production, hence smallholders’ farmer livelihoods.
- (In 2007), Investment potentials consultancy research study in the Eastern Province District of Gatsibo in Rwanda.
- (In 2007), Livestock Census in Gatsibo District, Rwanda. The work involved enumerating classes of animals in the district and a data base so produced was meant to be used in a cattle branding exercise.
