Vision:
To emerge as a center of excellence in education and training that will contribute towards the promotion of sustainable agriculture and natural resource development in Namibia and SADC region at large. Furthermore, the faculty will emerge as a center of excellence in basic & applied research that is pertinent to national and regional agricultural and natural resource developmental issues.
Mission:
To promote sustainable agriculture and natural resources development and management in Namibia through teaching, research, and outreach services, to communal and commercial farming communities

Preamble: The FANR is headed by an Executive Dean who is assisted by two Deputy Deans at Neudamm and the Ogongo Campuses. The mandate of the Faculty expands beyond academic activities and includes the management of active farming operations, hostel management; catering and social services; housing and farm security; maintenance of infrastructure community work.
Academic activities: Two 3-year Diploma programmes in Integrated Environmental Sciences and in Agriculture commenced in 2009. The curriculum includes clear articulation procedures for those students wishing to proceed into the FANR degree programme. The former GRN diploma programme will be phased out by 2011 with no intake of 1st year students as from 2009. The new Post Graduate Degree Programme in Rangeland Resources Management (RRM) commenced with the start of the 2008 academic year as did the first intake of students for the B.Sc. in Integrated Environmental Science. The Department of Natural Resources in 2009 split into 2 separate new Departments namely: Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences and Department of Integrated Environmental Sciences. Scientific cooperation and the improvement in academic linkages exist with institutions from the USA (Texas A+M University); Indonesia (Gadjah Mada University); Japan (Nagoya and Kinki Universities respectively) and RSA (Stellenbosch University), Kimron Veterinary Institute and the Volcani Center in Israel. Preparations for the introduction of a new Pre-Veterinarian School started in 2008.
The FANR offers various short courses at it’s Neudamm and Ogongo campuses. Training workshops which are presented to emerging farmers at Ogongo included: Mushroom Production and Rice Cultivation. At both campuses boarding, catering and conference facilities are made available to various Government Ministries (MoE, MAW+F and MoH) and to stakeholders from the regions to conduct training activities.
Research: Although about one third of FANR’s academic staff compliment were on staff development status during 2008, the overall research capacity and publication output was further strengthened. Six new research projects were granted approval by UNAM’s Research and Publication Committee of which the total funding amounted close to N$ 400.000.
