Piet van Rooyen is professor in Political and Administrative Studies in the Faculty of Economics and Management Science at the University of Namibia in Windhoek. He has a Ph.D. in Development Studies from the University of Stellenbosch. He has additional qualifications in Nature Conservation and Conservation Planning. He was managing director of KANAB Enterprises, a successful farming venture in the Omaheke region, for ten years. He was manager of the cattle farming project of the Nyae-Nyae Foundation in the Tsumkwe district for two years. He has been involved in the social and environmental aspects of several consultancies and development projects in Namibia. He is an important Namibian fiction writer.
