Prof. Marianne Zappen-Thomson is a Namibian by birth;
She obtained her doctoral degree from the University of Stellenbosch. Her main areas of interest are intercultural communication, translation and interpretation as well as teaching German as a foreign language in Namibia. She is the editor of the online journal eDUSA (http://www.sagv.org.za/eDUSA/index.htm), an executive member of the Association for German Studies in Southern Africa (SAGV), member of the German Curriculum Group, NIED. Organised the annual German Teachers conference together with the AGDS and NaDS/GZ. She has received scholarships from the DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service), the Goethe Institut, a Grant of the Rockefeller Foundation. Furthermore she has attended and presented papers a conferences world wide, amongst others in Lucerne, Switzerland, in Leipzig, Germany and Dublin, Ireland. Prof. Zappen-Thomson was on the organising committee for the XXI SAGV-Conference held at UNAM, Windhoek, from 14 to 16 April 2003 and she is a Founding member and executive committee member of Mopane Fonds. She serves on the Standing Committee for German as a Foreign Language, Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany and is involved in various community projects. |
