7. Short Biography   Wilfrid H. G. Haacke, Namibian by birth, studied Bantu languages (i.a. Otjiherero) initially. From 1973-83 he worked as language planner for “Nama/Damara” (Khoekhoegowab), developing materials for Khoekhoe-gowab as school subject and teaching medium.  In 1983 he was appointed to set up a Department of African Languages at the Academy for Tertiary Education, Windhoek, which was superseded by the University of Namibia in 1992.  With temporary absences to study in London and teach at the University of Bayreuth he has taught at UNAM ever since.

12. Recent Professional Activities

Ongoing Research:

2004 -.  Documentation of Northern Dialects of Khoekhoegowab.  University-funded project to document dialects of especially the Hai@om, ǂĀkhoe and the Sesfontein Damara.  These dialects are the dialects that deviate most markedly in Khoekhoegowab.  They provide significant links for the establishment of relations of Namibian Khoekhoe to Kalahari Khoe and the reconstruction of Proto-Central Khoesaan.
