Short Biography	I was born close to the town of Chivu in Zimbabwe. I attended high school at Hartzell High School, Old Mutare Mission. During my A-levels I was winner of the Gold Medal for first prize in the 1985 Old Mutual National Mathematics Olympiad. I graduated with a BSc Honours Mathematics degree at the University of Zimbabwe in 1988. During my Master of Philosophy studies with the same university, supervised by Dr M-M Mawanda, I had a six-month study visit in 1990 to the University of Cambridge under Prof P.T. Johnstone’s mentorship. After a long break, I completed my PhD studies with the University of South Africa in 2009 with Prof T. Dube as my promoter.
