Department of Physics

Physics is the study of matter and its motion through space-time. In other words, Physics is a general analysis of nature that we physicists do in order to understand how the universe behaves. Physics, through its inclusion of Astronomy, is the oldest of all the sciences and was at the core of the Scientific Revolution and still is the most influential academic discipline in the world. Partly because advances in its understanding have often translated into new technologies, but also because new ideas in physics often resonate with the other sciences, mathematics and philosophy. Moreover, with a very few exceptions, the science of Physics is still, and always will be, at the foundation of practically all of our modern technologies.

The Department of Physics at the University of Namibia offers a competitive training programme in Physics. Personnel in the Department is active in the fields of Radiation Physics, Laser Optics and High Energy Astrophysics. Thus, good graduates of the Department can easily qualify themselves further in one of these fields with good prospects for both local and international studying opportunities. The Department's programmes are not limited to the above, however. It also enables good students  to enter other post-graduate programmes abroad if they so choose.
