Prof. Isaac Mapaure has nineteen years experience in teaching, research and consultancy. He is an Associate Professor in Environmental Biology/Ecology with vast experience in vegetation ecology, natural resources management, plant taxonomy, biodiversity conservation and impacts of natural and anthropogenic factors on biodiversity. He has a number of high quality publications, including more than 25 journal papers, ten small books or book chapters, numerous technical reports, and conference papers. He has supervised two doctoral, close to forty BSc and more than twenty MSc students. He has taught various modules including Management of Natural Resources, Introduction to Ecology, Field Biology, Population Ecology, Taxonomy & Identification, Conservation Biology & Biodiversity, Functional Biodiversity of Forest and Woodland Ecosystems (MSc); Rangeland Biodiversity and Conservation (MSc), Plant Ecology, Applied Terrestrial Ecology, Biodiversity & Ecosystem Function (MSc). Prof. Mapaure has been involved in various international programmes and is a member of various professional bodies. He has been involved in faculty management and is currently the Research Coordinator of the University of Namibia and Chief Editor of the Namibia Development Journal.

I sit on various University of Namibia Committees including the PVC Academic Forum, Academic Planning Committee and the Senate. I Regularly evaluate applications for promotion as a member of UNAM Inter-Faculty Peer Review Committees.

I participated as a member of the Local Organising Committee for the Parasitological Society of Southern Africa Conference hosted by the University of Namibia in Windhoek, September 2006; as well as a member of the Local Organising Committee for the East & Southern African Environmental Chemistry & the 6th Theoretical Chemistry Conferences hosted by UNAM, December 6-9, 2005.

I have been very active as a member of the South Africa-Norway Tertiary Education (SANTED) Programme (the Animal, Plant & Environmental Sciences (APES)) Team at UNAM where I have been involved in local coordination of the activities of the Undergraduate Team Teaching programme. Also taking part in annual Field Courses (since 2004) as well as Curriculum development for the MSc Rangeland Resources Management.

I am a member of a number of Professional bodies including the Degradation Network, AFRIFIRENET (African Fire Research Network), Southern African Mopane Research Association (SAMRA), Biodiversity Foundation for Africa (BFA), Association for the Taxonomic Study of the Flora of Tropical Africa (AETFAT), Namibia Environment & Wildlife Society (NEWS) and the Botanical Society of Namibia (BOTSOC).
