Banking:

The Namibian Dollar (N$) and South African Rand (R) are the only legal tenders in Namibia and can be used freely to purchase goods and services. The Namibian Dollar is in note denominations of N$200, 100, 50, 20 and 10. Coins are in denominations of N$5, N$1, 50 cents, 10 cents and 5 cents. It is linked to the South African Rand on a 1:1 basis (1 South African Rand = 100 cents).

Internet and Telecommunication:

Prepaid mobile phone sim card and ‘3G’ plug-in device for internet access can be purchased locally

  • MTC – pre-paid available airtime and 3G available
  • Leo – pre-paid available airtime 3G available
  • Telecom Namibia – broadband internet available through phone-line, various packages
  • Other telecommunications companies – variable contracts with Namibian service providers.

Local phone-line numbers all are preceded with 061; MTC numbers are preceded with 081; International code for Namibia is +264 (and the‘0’ is removed, i.e. +264 61…).
