research policies & strategies
Research Ethics and related Policies are pivotal in guiding research and related activities at the University of Namibia (UNAM). Currently, in terms of research UNAM is guided by its Institutional Research Strategy. The actual Policies: Research Ethics Policy and Intellectual Property Rights Policy for the Institution are being developed. To address issues with regard to ethical clearance and adherence to ethical conduct in research and publications, UNAM has established an Interim Research and Ethics Committee comprising well qualified academics and Professors from different fields of study.
Interim Research Ethics Committee Members:
Prof. I. Mapaure (Chairperson)
Ms P. Claassen (Secretariat)
Mrs J.E. de Villiers
Prof. C.D. Kasanda
Dr M. Kandawa-Schulz
Dr J. Kaurivi
Prof. R. Zimba
Dr H. Riruako
In addition, the University of Namibia has an Institutional Review Board (IRB) hosted under the University Central Consultancy Bureau (UCCB). The IRB reviews biomedical and behavioural research involving humans with the aim to protect the rights and welfare of the research subjects. This is done specifically for project proposals funded under the PEPFAR/CDC funds of the United States of America.
